About the event

Join us as we dive into Scot McKnight’s The Jesus Creed: Loving God, Loving Others, a transformative exploration of what it means to live out Jesus’ greatest commandment: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. McKnight challenges readers to make this simple yet profound creed the foundation of their daily lives, reshaping how we think, act, and relate to others.

Through engaging storytelling, biblical insights, and practical application, McKnight shows how embracing the Jesus Creed can lead to spiritual growth and deeper relationships with God and others. The book offers a fresh perspective on discipleship, rooted in love and grace.

We want to dive right in on week 1, so grab a copy of the book ASAP.

Before the first class, complete the foreword and the Introduction to the Fifteenth Anniversary Edition Love in the Jesus Creed.   Please include Part 1 (Chapters 1-6) pages 3-51.   Please answer the questions for the week. To make the most of our book club, it is important to actively participate in deep and meaningful discussions that have the potential to transform your life.

Week 1 Questions

  1. Scot McKnight highlights the Shema as central to Jesus' teaching. How does Jesus’ addition of "love your neighbor as yourself" shape our understanding of what it means to love God?

  2. The book suggests that reciting the Jesus Creed (Mark 12:29-31) can transform our daily lives. How might incorporating this practice help shape your thoughts, words, and actions?

  3. McKnight discusses how love for God and love for others are inseparable. How have you seen this truth play out in your own spiritual journey?

  4. Jesus expands the concept of "neighbor" beyond cultural and social barriers. What challenges do you face in loving those outside your immediate community?

  5. What practical steps can we take to cultivate a deeper love for God and others in our daily routines?
